We were on camp this week, and I had ate a lot more fruit than usual.

I had 2 apples on the first day, with lots of macaroons - which were made with 3/4 of a cup of honey.

2 plums yesterday with lots of macaroons.

On both days I had 5 love bites which are made with 1/3 cup of agave and a shitload of rice bran syrup.

And yesterday after eating those plums and macaroons, I was so out of it. It was crazy. I had the biggest sugar spike - which I actually didn’t really notice - followed by a massive candida overgrowth. It was massive. I was pretty much walking around drunk and delirious.

So, I would like to post this to point out the sensitivity to sugars I have developed lately.

Go eat some Fenugreek.

Fenugreek:

  • Assists the body to balance hormones - increases libido, lessens mood fluctuations and hot flashes (assists with pms)
  • Assists with breast enlargement
  • Reduces menstrual pain
  • Lowers cholesterol
  • Lowers blood glucose

It has been used to treat:

  • arthritis
  • asthma
  • bronchitis
  • sluggish digestion (improves digestion)
  • skin problems - rashes, wounds, boils
  • sore throats
  • acid reflux
  • reproductive disorders
  • Fevers
  • Increases milk production for lactating women

It can also be used to induce childbirth, so those who are pregnant, be wary!

How to eat Fenugreek

I have it in powdered form in capsules, so I add the powder to my ice cream, smoothie, or whatever I choose to eat. I don’t eat it everyday though. By consuming Fenugreek I have found that my mucus has significantly lowered.

Crush some seeds then add to warm water with lemon and honey.
Just eat the seeds straight.

Sprinkle fenugreek seeds on top of salads.

Eat fenugreek seeds straight as a snack.

Why conventional cows milk? Go for nut mylk!

Nut mylks is basically a smoothie but it’s made with nuts, and only one form of nuts. It’s an awesome for vegans wanting a replacement for conventional milk.

They are used as a replacement for conventional animal milk, and especially the pus-infused, cooked, homogenized, hormone-messing, factory farmed “cow’s milk” a large majority of Western folk drink today, because it’s a good source of calcium.

Well, actually factory-farmed cow milk good source of calcium. In fact, it promotes organisms to grow on our bones, in our bodies, and even in our hearts!

So what is a good source of calcium?

I would go with almonds. Almonds are really amazing little foods. The catch is, you need to soak them overnight to get rid of the enzyme prohibitors, which can stop the body from absorbing vital nutrients. Enzyme prohibitors are what stop nuts and seeds from sprouting. Now don’t be afraid of trees growing in our bodies, because they definitely won’t. When the enzyme prohibitors are removed through soaking the nut or seed, the body is able to fully break down the seed/nut, and absorb all of it.

How do I make nut mylk?

Get one cup of soaked almonds and put them into your blender (the ratio being 1:3). Then get three cups of water and put them into the blender, with the almonds. Then blend the hell out of those almonds! Depending on your blender, you might end up with chunky parts of almonds in the nut mylk. If this happens, just blend some more. If it still occurs, and you don’t want these chunky parts, then strain the nut mylk into another container or jug or whatever.

I tend to find almond mylk rather gritty. So to thin it out, strain it. You will get the gritty parts out of the mylk, and it will have a consistency similar to, or the same as, that of conventional milk.

Remember, you can use more or less almonds depending on the strength you want. You can also use other nuts. For example, you can make a cashew nut mylk, brazil nut mylk, walnut nut mylk, anything you want! Just remember that different nuts need to be soaked for different periods of time, for example, almonds go for about 9 hours, whereas cashews don’t need to be soaked.

What can I use nut mylk in?

Nut mylks can be used in anything. It replaces conventional animal milk, and can actually boost flavors. I use almond mylk in hot chocolates (although I make mine from scratch) because almonds and chocolate are A-MA-ZING together (they seriously compliment each other). I like nut mylk with museli in the morning.

And remember that different nuts most definitely do have different flavours, so if you don’t like almond mylk, give cashew nut mylk a try, or walnut nut mylk. Just play around with it until you find your preference.

Many blessings and love!

Raw, Organic Honey

Now I saw raw honey. Why raw honey? Well raw honey hasn’t been cooked, so it’s still got all the living enzymatic and amino acids present, so it’s so much more easily absorbed by the body to create a healthy sugar source, which can easily be used as a substitute to fruits, considering how much little sugar is present in comparison, as well as how easily bio-available it is to the body.

Now, why organic honey?
Well, when honey is created by bees, the bees only travel so far. So when non organic honey is collected, it is collected from bee hives living in a certain proximity to sprayed crops, or non-organic crops. Organic crops, therefore, have to be in a certain proximity where no crops are being sprayed.

Another consideration of why organic honey, is because in bee hives wax is created. This wax holds all the toxicity of the surrounding environment, and this wax is in raw, uncooked honey. Cooked honey does not contain the wax, or it does but not to as much of a degree to raw honey.

Now don’t go away thinking that wax in raw honey is bad, it’s totally natural and amazing for the body! It is one of the primary factors in honey being created, and it therefore assists the body in so many ways. The wax is only bad when the surrounding bee hive environment is being sprayed with herbicides and pesticides, such as that of the non organic crops. Actually, a small side-note here, is that when scientists want to measure the toxicity of an environment, they will test the wax of a bee hive. This is precisely why cooked honey would be a better preference to raw honey when buying non-organic, because the wax factor would have been removed to a degree, and therefore there is a lot less toxicity going into the body.

So, when choosing to buy raw or cooked honey, if you cannot get your hands on a decent, local, certified organic honey, make sure that you buy cooked honey, as there will not be as much toxicity in the honey as compared to raw honey.

Now onto the nutritional value of raw honey.

Raw honey contains:

  • Very high antioxidant levels
  • Incredibly fantastic source of fructose, or the most simplest sugar available to the body
  • The best source ever of carbohydrates: easily absorbed, easily bio-available, easy to eat, no form of fermentation in the body, unlocks more blood sugars from the liver and body, is almost instantly absorbed into the blood stream, therefore producing one of the best sources of energy for the entire body.

Honey helps the body:

  • Alkalize the digestive system: counteracts over-acidity
  • Relive nausea
  • Gain energy
  • Digest starchy foods
  • Remove Microbial bodies: anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal
  • Anti tumor
  • Control blood sugar
  • Assist and help the liver: due to the fructose.
  • Become more sensitive to insulin: Good because the body will be less susceptible to over-producing insulin, therefore increasing longevity, and benefiting the pancreas.
  • Utilize memory
  • Remove bad cholesterol
  • Boost immune system
  • Reduce coughs: proven to be more effective than cough medicine.

Honey can be used:

  • In tea or coffee as a sugar alternative
  • In smoothies as a fruit alternative
  • On bread or anything else as a butter or spread
  • Can be used in drinks as a sweetner. For example, goji/lemon juice with honey is amazing for athletes, due to both the alkalizing effect and the effective rate of which the carbohydrates, minerals and cell-producing benefits are absorbed, therefore the body doesn’t need to waste as much time absorbing carbohydrates, compared to that of meat, starches (bread, pasta, rice) or even “sports drinks”. Honey in water is essentially the ultimate sports drink.

Chaga Mushroom

Chaga mushroom is known as the “King of the Mushrooms” because it is so massive, literally as an organism, and because it is just so powerful. In Siberia it was known as the “Mushroom of Immortality” or “The gift of the Gods”.

Chaga grows in trees, and it can be so big, that one organism of chaga mushroom can be growing all over a forest: it really is just that big.

Chaga mushroom:

  • Stimulates the central nervous system
  • improves metabolism
  • Regulates the cardiovascular and respiratory systems
  • Increases oxygenation of the blood and body
  • Is Anti-Microbial: meaning it’s anti-fungal, anti candida, anti bacterial, anti viral
  • Regulates the immune system: If it’s running too high, Chaga brings it back down, if it’s too low, Chaga brings it back up.
  • Contains polysaccharides
  • Is an adaptogen
  • Is the highest antioxidant out of any food or tea (10 TIMES higher than Pomegranate
  • Tonifies the bodily organs
  • Is perfect for almost any disease, or “Dis-ease”.

Since Chaga tea and extracts are a tonic, you can take as much chaga as you want, whenever you want.

How to eat
Chaga is edible as a tea, alcoholic extract (like vanilla extract), or can be ground up and added to smoothies or whatever you’re working with. The tea and alcoholic extract can be added to smoothies as well. I personally haven’t had the pleasure of working with chaga as of yet.

Here is a video of Daniel Vitalis talking about Chaga Mushrooms, and this is where I got a lot of my information.

Maca

Maca, although not available all around the world in it’s complete form, is more of a radish or a turnip, and it can grow up at elevations up to, 5000 metres. Maca is well known as a natural aphrodisiac, as it’s stimulation on both gender’s reproductive systems is amazing (tested and well proven).

Maca is beneficial for:

  • Boosting the immune system
  • oxygenating the blood
  • increasing sexual desire and function (tested and proven personally)
  • regulates hormones (it works with and nourishes the hypothalamus and pituitary glands): therefore it increases mood, is beneficial for PMS, mood swings, menopause, depression and hot flashes.
  • Increasing fertility in women, and sperm count in men.
  • tumor growths
  • adapting to any situation currently being experienced: helps you adapt to stress (due to the adaptogens present)
  • Preventing fatigue
  • increasing energy
  • Increasing muscle strength and endurance
  • Increasing memory
  • blood circulation: it helps people with anemia
  • Stabilizing various systems in the body (eg - hormonal, lymph, circulatory)

Maca contains:

  • 17 of 18 amino acids
  • high amounts of magnesium
  • high amounts of calcium
  • high amounts of iron
  • copper
  • Potassium
  • Zinc
  • Phosphorous
  • Manganese
  • Silicon
  • Vitamins B1, B2, C
  • Over 20 fatty acids
  • carbohydrates

Where to get maca?
Maca is available at close to every health food shop, in a powdered form.

How to eat Maca?
I add it to my smoothies, brownies and juices. It is amazing when combined with cacao. Maca should only be eaten for 3-4 days out of the week, as it can over-stimulate the body and this will cause drowsiness. I have also found that going off of maca is rather stimulating also.

One recipe which is really simple:

  • 1-2 tbs maca
  • 2tbs cacao
  • 1tsp honey

Add all to hot water, or to tea.

Goji Berries

Goji Berries are also known as Wolfe Berries, so don’t get mixed up! It’s the same amazing fruit!

In China, Goji Berries have been used for thousands of years. There is a parable of a man who lived to be over two hundred years old, who used to eat goji berries every single day.

Goji berries help to:

  • protect the liver
  • promote longevity
  • help the eyesight (high in Vitamin A)
  • boost and regulate the immune system (gojis are a source of polysaccharides)
  • promote circulation
  • promote oxygenation of the blood (high ORAC (Oxygen radical absorbance capacity)
  • remove cholesterol

Goji berries are extremely high in

  • calcium (supports proper functioning of nerves, assists with blood clots)
  • potassium (supports muscle and nerve function, lowers risk of high-blood pressure)
  • iron (the foundation of all cells in the human body; protects DNA and keeps us alive)
  • selenium (helps to relax the body)
  • vitamin B2 (supports energy in cells, protects cells from oxidation)
  • vitamin C
  • Carotenoids (highest source of all food: helps to protect and improve eyesight)
  • Zinc (helps the immune system, supports the senses, assists in balancing blood sugar levels)

They also contain 22 trace minerals.

How to eat goji berries?
Personally, I eat them straight, I add them to my smoothies, tea, brownies, “ice cream”, or I’ll soak them in water and drink goji-juice, and use the soaked goji berries in a smoothie or elsewhere.

Reishi Mushroom.

Reishi has been used in China for thousands of years as the “Elixir of Immortality”. It was said that a brew of Reishi Mushroom could “bring the dead back to life”.

Reishi contains many polysaccharides, which boost the immune system and help to regulate it. This means that if your immune system is running too high, and is attacking your body, then the polysaccharides will help to bring it back down. If you immune system is too weak, the polysaccharides will bring it back up to par. If your immune system is missing something, then the polysaccharides will get your immune system on that.

Reishi contains massive amounts of antioxidants, it helps to remove inflammation, helps prevent blood clots, it prevents fatigue (I have experienced this), lowers cholesterol, helps clear mucus from the lungs, reduces blood-sugar levels, has positive effects on the kidneys, adrenals and endocrine systems, helps clear the liver and it helps increase blood oxygenation.

So, yay for reishi tea!

Cacao.

Cacao is chocolate, but in it’s raw, natural state. So instead of having chocolate which is cooked and added with a lot of sugar and artificial enhancers, and processed some more, cacao is chocolate which is straight from the tree.

Cacao was used by the ancient indigenous peoples of Central America, and was their central food. It was their form of money.

Cacao is the number one source of magnesium, chromium, iron (one small handfull of cacao beans is over 300% of the RDA of iron) and is one of the highest sources of antioxidants (20 times greater than red wine, 10-15 times greater than blueberries, 20 times greater than green tea), zinc, copper, manganese, it is the highest source of vitamin C in the nut and seed kingdom, and contains the chemical which our brains produce during times of joy and love.
